Info required on design of Falling film evaporator

Info required on design of Falling film evaporator

(OP)
Hi

Could anyone please direct me to textbooks that detail the design of falling film evaporators and the design of the pumps that are required for these evaporators. I am given to understand that the pumps operate on the "snore" principle, however I have not heard of such a term. Could someone please explain this to me?

I am aware that generally a design company would be called in however as part of my training programme I am required to do the calculations.

Thank you

What's the product and what is the heating medium in thid process?

I have no idea what's ment "running on the snore"

In the process where we are using falling film evaporators (air separation) we have liquid oxygen evaporating and gassous nitrogen condensing on the other side.
We pump the liquid oxygen over the evaporator. We run the evaporators with a level in a buffer in the evaporator, just to make sure that there is allways a constant flow over the surface to prevent dryboiling.
From all the liquid only 30% will evaporate.

dheegove,
Chapter 14 in the attached manual covers falling film evaporation.

I think "snore" is a pump operating mode where the pump has reduced the water level to a point where it is pulling air and water and is used to control seepage.  "Snore" would be descriptive of the sound that is made.

Running the pump with a low level and sucking in air.. I don't think the pump likes it. It can demage your pump.

The databook is very helpfull by the way.

Thank you very much for the information esp. the attached manual.

cryotechnic,

I agree, but some pumps are designed to tolerate snoring.

"The Sykes Himax and Primax pumps are designed to run dry and in ‘snore’ conditions without taking damage."
