New Win 7 machine, WF3, and large assemblies

New Win 7 machine, WF3, and large assemblies

New Win 7 machine, WF3, and large assemblies

(OP)
I just got a new desktop machine. Win 7, 64 bit, 12 gig Ram, W3690 Intel CPU. We are using WF3 M250 and PDM9.1. I was expecting a bigger improvement in being able to handle large assemblies. But alas, when opening something pretty big, I still get Pro to disappear/crash/dump. I am just starting to hunt down the reason why and was hoping someone here might have some ideas of things to look for.

Thanks in advance

RE: New Win 7 machine, WF3, and large assemblies

Did you load the 64-bit version of Wildfire3?
Wildfire3-64 is listed as being for XP-64. It should work with Win7-64, but I had issues with WF4 on Win7-64. I did get it working, so WF3 may work with a little work.

Second, what graphics chip/driver is on the laptop? WF does not like integrated Intel graphics or Win7 Home. If you have an open-GL level graphics card/chip and Win7-64 Pro, then check for the latest graphics drivers. Even if you have a new laptop, the as-built image could be 6 months old or more. Update with all the latest Windows patches.

RE: New Win 7 machine, WF3, and large assemblies

The Win7-64 machines I have set up for WF 4 absolutely despise Aero and all the related eye candy. Somewhere deep in the bowels of Win7 you will find a button that says config for best performance or something like that. Click it and Pro/E will be much happier.
