Teamcenter Express implementation

Teamcenter Express implementation

Teamcenter Express implementation

(OP)
My company has finally decided to implement a PDM system after years of using folder structured archiving. We use Solid Edge ST4 (soon ST5) and we chose Teamcenter Express 9.1 as our PDM program.

Our mechanical archive consists of a Solid Edge 3D archive and a 2D .pdf archive of drawings (Solid Edge drafts printed as pdf, drawings from past 2D programs and hand drawn drawings, about 40000 files all in all).

To begin with we plan to use TC Express merely for storing CAD data and keeping track of revisions etc.; however in the future we will look into a possible implementation of the build-in ECO system as well as storing MS Office files in TC Express and allowing sub-contractors to view selected files.

So before we begin to “shovel” data into TC Express, are there any tips on migrating data to TC Express, do’s and don’ts, necessary settings, etc.?

I know it is a very open question since the program has many features and almost unlimited settings, however if you have any hard-earned experiences with a similar implementation please share :)

Our plan so far:

1st phase: Upload Solid Edge assemblies along with SE parts and drafts, so the file structure and relations in the assembly is used to build the TC Express structure.

2nd phase: Upload pdf’s unstructured (If a non SE part/drawing needs a change, we redraw the part and the other parts comprising that product in Solid Edge and thereby build the product structure on the go). We figure it would be too heavy a workload to create all the links between the parts when importing the files into TC Express.
