48V battery in remote desert location

48V battery in remote desert location

(OP)
I need to find a 48V, 50 Ah batteries for remote substation in desert locations. The batteries should be instated in cabinets without ventilation. The temperature inside of the cabinets can reach 130F. Life expectancy 15-20 years with low maintenance requirements. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

RE: 48V battery in remote desert location

Temperature range suggests NiCad chemistry.

There are some flooded NiCad recombination cells which have 'low' maintenance requirements, or you could go for the sealed variety which is maintenance proof (but not maintenance-free wink ). The recombination types have minimal electrolyte loss on float charge at 'normal' operating temperatures, but that may not be true at elevated temperatures. Ask the manufacturers: SAFT, AlCad, Hoppecke for a start.

RE: 48V battery in remote desert location

For one thing, don't clamp the batteries tightly together.
To the greatest extent possible, the cells should be separated from each other or anything else, so a little natural convection has a hope of cooling the cell walls.
