Mooring on hard soil

Mooring on hard soil

(OP)
We need to propose best anchoring method for dredging vessel in a location where sea bed is mostly dense sand (calcareous). Maximum required holding capacity of the anchor is 1200 KN .In the past experience, Stevshark anchors were difficult to be placed in the project location due to lack of penetration. Can we propose a pile anchor in such a location ?

RE: Mooring on hard soil

Calcerous sand can get very, very hard. At times as hard as cement. I don't think hammered piles will be productive. I don't know if a vibrated pile will work either, or if you will be forced to drill and push. This is the only thing I have on sea anchors. They suggest vibratory piles for dense sand, but I think that if the calcium is hardened, it will not work. Drilling it in may be your best bet.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. If it's not safe ... make it that way.
