I have a question regarding seismic base shear and the earthquake load force combination described in IBC load combos section 1605. The base shear according to ASCE is V=CsW. That is the load that is applied to both the transverse and longitudinal direction. How does the Earthquake load come into effect? The static lateral force procedure refers to the seismic base shear, not the earthquake loading combo? Please help. Thank You

You have to take the base shear, V, and apply it to the various levels of your building (the IBC has a formula for that). Each level of your building has a force, Fn, where n is the level of the building. These forces at each level are the lateral seismic forces (Eh) that are included in the "E" of the load combinations. There are also vertical seismic forces (Ev) that are included in the E as well.
