Hi,

What electrode do you recommend for welding ASTM A53 Gr B steels

RE: electrode for ASTM A53 Gr B

E7018-1

RE: electrode for ASTM A53 Gr B

Assuming SMAW process, E6010 for the root/hot pass, E7018 for fill.

Yes, is SMAW process.
What is the difference between 7018-1 and 7018?
Thanks!

RE: electrode for ASTM A53 Gr B

E7018-1 has 'guaranteed' impact toughness at -50C, E7018 at -20F.

RE: electrode for ASTM A53 Gr B

Make that -50F.

RE: electrode for ASTM A53 Gr B

-50F is darn near -50C... they intersect at -40(C/F)...

I would venture to say it depends on the application.

If the pipe wall is less than 3/4 inch, E6010 or E6011 will work as will any 60 ksi filler metal. If the pipe wall is over 3/4 inch you might consider using the E7018 or other low hydrogen electrode.

Best regards - Al
