Does AWS D1.1 have a prequal for mulitiple electrode use?

RE: D1.1 2000 GMAW multiple electrode

Not that I am aware of. The user can qualify any process in accordance with Clause 4 and use it for production applications.

RE: D1.1 2000 GMAW multiple electrode

There is nothing in D1.1 Code verbiage that prohibits multiple electrode use for the GMAW process in prequalified space, provided you have met the requirements of Clause 3 and the table for Prequalified WPS Requirements (Table 3.7).

The earlier editions do not have anything prohibiting this, and the latest edition with Table 3.8 would still not prohibit it, as it indicates non-applicability for processes other than SAW. 3.6 in the 2010 edition makes this clear - it is nonessential for the GMAW process, and would not require qualification in accordance with Clause 4.

RE: D1.1 2000 GMAW multiple electrode

But just because it is legal does not mean you shouldn't do the necessary development work to implement the process. Probably more than usual.
