Why even the use of blank spaces matters!
Why even the use of blank spaces matters!
(OP)
There have been many posts about the importance of correct grammar, spelling and punctuation, and how a misplaced or omitted comma or apostrophe can completely change the meaning of a sentence.
However, here is a wonderful example of how a single missing blank space can totally change the meaning:
The Australian Corrosion Association “Guidelines for Authors” says that:
“All papers and presentations must be incomprehensible English, as would be expected at a technical conference.”
(Reported in New Scientist, August 4 2008, page 48)
I have attended many technical conferences where some of the presentations are petty incomprehensible, but I had no idea that it was a requirement for publication!
