horizontal bracing

horizontal bracing

(OP)
Hello,

We're starting to use SAP2000 for design of framed pipe supports to building code requirements (NBCC). I've got horizontal bracing in my design but the program keeps assessing it as if it is a beam. I can't get it to consider it a brace. I'm not having this problem with the lateral bracing.

Can anyone please point me towards some sort of solution for this? Even pointing to a tutorial for it would be very helpful as I haven't been able to find much.

Thanks so much.

RE: horizontal bracing

reesh

you are free to model the element as a pure brace by simply eliminating its weight and stiffness and releasing moments at its ends.
