ASME NB 4221.1

ASME NB 4221.1

ASME NB 4221.1

(OP)
The equation in NB-4221.1 regarding max difference in cross sectional diameters for vessels says that use the minimum of (D+50)/200[(D+1 250)/200] or D/100. Now this equation is confusing in the sense that (a)it looks like there's set of parenthesis missing, It looks like it should read [(D+50)/200][(D+ 1 250)/200]. and it looks like there should either be a comma, a multipy or a divide between the parenthis all of which don't make sense either. Does any body have know or have an experience of how to iteprete this equation.

Thanx

RE: ASME NB 4221.1

The original equation assumes that you know basic scietific nomeclature. I read it as:
(D+50)/200*[(D+1250)/200]. You could add another set of parentheses if it makes you feel better. They would go like this: (D+50)/(200*[(D+1250)/200]).

thanks vpl for your response, in that case the 200 is not necessary in the denominator term (200*[(D+1250)/200]), 200 should cancel. the equation will end up reading (D+50)/(D+1250). this doesn't make sense either because the ratio (D+50)/(D+1250) is demensionless compared to D/100.

RE: ASME NB 4221.1

I can't argue with you on that.
