Equivalent of Chinese Material Q235B

Equivalent of Chinese Material Q235B

Equivalent of Chinese Material Q235B

(OP)
We are in process of ordering a guyed mast tower (meteorological tower) from China. The supplier has said that all structural material would be Q235B. Can body give me the equivalent in ASTM.

RE: Equivalent of Chinese Material Q235B

If you can't find a quick answer than you could go the long route and try to match some of the properties to find an equivalent material

http://www.lhwfg.com/shownews.asp?id=4928

That page gives both (some of) the mechanical properties and the chemical composition of Q235B.

That's the best I can suggest, good luck.

You could use metengr's link to choose a likely material and then check that the important properties match up.

What material or properties did you ask for?

RE: Equivalent of Chinese Material Q235B

hey, i got similar question.

I too want to know if there equivalent steels. But could you point me to equivalent steels in yield strength AND composition. I mostly interested in composition in regards to weldability (carbon and manganese content) and galvanizing (Silicon content).

Could you help me find in those aspects (of weldability, galvanizing capability and yield strength) equivalent according to EN10025?

Thanks in advance,
Oran

RE: Equivalent of Chinese Material Q235B

I did an EPC Chinese project in 2002, and I still keep Chinese code GB150-1998.
Here are the properties from Chinese code
- Q235A and Q235B have the same tensile and yield: 375/235 Mpa
- Both have the same allowable stress from ambient to 350C.

The differences of A and B when using as vessel plate:
Q235A: design pressure 1.0Mpa maximum, 16 mm thick maximum
Q235B: design pressure 1.6Mpa maximum, 20 mm thick maximum
Both shall not be used in toxic substances. Q235A shall not be used in liquefied petroleum gas.

So looks like B is better than A, though they have the same mechanical properties.

The Chinese project manager told us AQ235A is equivalent to : SA-283-C, SA-36, SA-307B.
So if you treat Q235B as the above, you shall be good to go, and I am pretty confident for it.

Thanks jtseng123, can i have detailed properties of Q235B. I could not find its English version.

Here it is
