Importing and working with a 2d .dxf file into NX6...
(OP)
Hi Guys,
I am using a component measuring machine to measure some parts. I am able to save the measurements and resulting drawing (via the cmm software) as a .dxf file. My question is what next? Do I open my NX6 template file as normal and import the .dxf? I have tried this and the data appears to import but I can't really work with it (I also am now in camera view which is new to me). I would like to be able to start a sketch on the same plane and join lines and arcs together, basically rework it as necessary. Can I do this? I am thinking about it the wrong way? What do I need to do with the lines, arcs and circles that appear on the screen to use the normal NX6 functions? - some sort of further conversion?
many thanks,
James

Is the geometry visible and selectable? DXF geometry comes in as basic curves. If it came from CMM output it may not be planar, it will probably require some cleanup. Create a datum plane (or datum csys) where you want and project the curves to it. Be careful with arcs, if they are at an angle to the plane they will project as an ellipse. Once on your sketch plane you can use the "add existing curves" option to convert them from basic curves to sketch curves.

many thanks for the reply. Yes, that is basically what I have done - it wasn't exactly pretty but it works fine!
many thanks,
