von Mises stress = (0.5*((s1-s2)^2+(s2-s3)^2+(s3-s1)^2))^0.5 according to definition, becouse s2 and s3 are 0 von miss=s1=sx is it correct?

RE: Calculating von mises in beam element

Hello,
for getting von mises stress, you can make /esh,1 and plns,s,eqv command to display vom mises stress.

The formula that you are talking abou allow to calculate Von Mises Stress by using principal stress so you don't take into account shear stress. It depends of your load in the structure.

But you can use another definition without principal stress, you can find this result on the web. Google is your friend.
