thread1066-310443: Residential Truss Repair Advice

In California most real estate transactions perform a home inspection that usually finds roof truss damage in the attic and thus, a report is made for corrections, but the inspectors arent qualified to provide the fix. In California they expect a wet stamped engineered repair detail and the work to be performed by a qualified contractor. If this common in other parts of the country or is California the most pronounced state for this ?
The reason I ask is that my company has a very unique solution for these issues and am wondering the need and possibilty to expand my business model to other states.

All states and AHJ that require an engineer seal on the truss drawing should also require an engineer seal on any repairs. See 2009 IBC section 2303.4.5 not sure of the IRC section but it should be the same statement. This probably is not done or enforced, except maybe after a home inspection.

As EOR's we should take the responsibility to design our structures to support the components we allow in our design per that industry standards.

Kind of depends on the local building inspector.... If they are smart enough to see a defect they usually ask for a engineered report. Most don't have a clue!!

But I have made quite few bucks off the "smart" ones.... That's why I send them Christmas cards every year!!

As woodman88 states....
Here is Florida, most truss repairs require engineer to sketch repair, sign and seal. I'm sure many get done without any engineering involvement or inspection. I see them when checking for other issues.
