Max Amps?

Max Amps?

Max Amps?

(OP)
Looking to determine the remaining capacity of an Immersion Heater:
480 V
90 kW
1-3 Phase

. The readings gave 67 Amps

Any ideas on how to determine the remaining capacity of this heater?

RE: Max Amps?

My crystal ball isn't working well today. 3eyes

What is the nature of the supply - three phase star, three phase delta, line-neutral, or line-line?
How are the heater elements connected - some of them, all of them, series, parallel, star, delta, etc...?
How are they supposed to be connected to achieve rated output?

RE: Max Amps?

67A, 480V;
single-phase = 32kW
3-phase = 56kW

Lionel, are to elaborate?

RE: Max Amps?

Not really, I used basic single phase and 3-phase power calculations that any engineer should know and a Google search would easily find.

well i was able to do that. but i am not sure that really gives a realistic evaluation of the heater. thanks alot though

RE: Max Amps?

No simple connection of a 90kW 3ph heater draws 67A. Nearest I could get was 62.5A for an element designed to be connected line-line (delta) but actually connected line-neutral (star). If the supply voltage is a little high then it's a possibility.

Without some of the additional details I requested before all any of us can do is guess.

i am working on getting some more info. thanks for sending me in the right direction scotty
