Wood pole foundations for swampy areas

Wood pole foundations for swampy areas

Wood pole foundations for swampy areas

(OP)
Wood pole foundations: The line passes through swampy areas with very low soil bearing capacity, several types of foundations for the wood pole structures are possible. I prefer a concrete foundation with a column on which the pole is attached to above ground. Now I am told that it is easier/cheaper to take 2 empty oil drums, put the pole inside and fill it with concrete. According to my knowledge wood poles embedded in concrete decay. Any opinion on this?

RE: Wood pole foundations for swampy areas

Like you say, several types of foundation are possible. If you Google Pole Bog Shoe you will come up with a few. I can't see the concrete filled oil drum method offering much stability in cross winds aside from the decay issue.
