Copying Detail views from one print to another

Copying Detail views from one print to another

Copying Detail views from one print to another

(OP)
I thought I had done this in the past and can't seem to figure out why I can't do it now. Can it be done? I know I can drag a view in the tree and drop it into another print but I want to keep the original view on that print as well. The reason for it is to do a more detailed view in larger scale of a certain area and I'm out of room on the other print. The other thing I wanted to ask is there a way to repopulate the view pallette after the views have been used up?

RE: Copying Detail views from one print to another

Cut & paste the detail view from the parent sheet to the new sheet, or drag & drop the detail view from the feature tree. When using the tree, the parent sheet has to be active and the detail view has to be dropped onto the Sheet? title.

RE: Copying Detail views from one print to another

Derived (detail/section) views require you copy the original view as well, e.g. if you have a Detail View A referencing Drawing View 3, you have to copy both Detail View A and Drawing View 3 to a new sheet together. (You can keep the original view off the viewable area of the sheet, if you just want the detail.)

RE: Copying Detail views from one print to another

EngineerErrant,

Derived views cannot be copied, but they can be CUT & pasted (i.e. moved) without having to move the parent view..

well, I can't copy and paste which is what I was originally trying to do of the detail view alone but if I do grab the the parent view as well it does copy and paste. Then I hide the parent view. seems to work unless someone has something better.

RE: Copying Detail views from one print to another

<sigh> CUT not COPY

Gotcha, I was thinking I want to keep the original view as well so I was copying, but doesn't matter I just paste it back in both sheets and realign the original view. Thanks, this is more what I was looking for.

" The other thing I wanted to ask is there a way to repopulate the view pallette after the views have been used up? "

There are 2 circular green arrows at the top of the view pallet - those will re populate the drawing views.
