Floating Flange design
Floating Flange design
(OP)
Hi all,
Does any one Know a good design guide for Floating Flange designs. I am working on a project, where design teperature of the duct is 480 C. If I weld the carbon steel ring flange directly on to Stainless steel pipe. Pipe expansion will be restricted due to difference in thermal expansion of stainless and carbon steel. To avoid chocking of the pipe I need to design flange as floating flange and loads from the pipe to flange will be transmitted via pads/lugs welded on to the pipe. I have seen many drawings of this design but unable to find a design procedure for the same. Can someone help Please?

RE: Floating Flange design
By no means the loads are transferred from the flange to the pipe via lugs, but only through the lap (a ring welded onto the pipe end at right angles to pipe wall used to compress the gasket).
