RISA 3D- Aluminum Single Angles

RISA 3D- Aluminum Single Angles

RISA 3D- Aluminum Single Angles

(OP)
I am attempting to design some aluminum single angles in RISA 3D using the 2005 ADM.
The member detail report for the single angles has a warning stating "code check based on z-z Axial Only" yet the detail report still displays a "Max Bending Check".
It also has "N/A" displayed for Fby and Fbz.

Can someone clue me in on how RISA approaches the design of aluminum single angles?

RE: RISA 3D- Aluminum Single Angles

The term "Bending Check" is an imperfect term. RISA used to use the term "code check". But, it was changed to make it clear that it didn't cover all code checks (shear checks, deflection, et cetera).

Aluminum Single Angles are currently only check for axial buckling. No flexure is considered in the code check. However, that was recently added for steel members. The behavior is very similar (esp for 2010 Aluminum code). So, it should not be long before that gets added into the program for aluminum as well.

Thanks as always Josh!

The term "bending check" is really poor in my opinion.
It is very misleading....especially when, from my experience, almost all FEM software design checks for steel are based on combined stress (chapter H from AISC).
