IEC for mechanical devices/products

IEC for mechanical devices/products

IEC for mechanical devices/products

(OP)
I am looking for a satisfatory answer to the question of which IEC standards apply to mechanical devices/systems in general ?? does IEC 60601-1 3rd edition apply to mechanical parts/devices?

IEC standards seem most applcable to devices which have any kind of electrical element but say you have a completely mechanical part or device would IEC apply to it too. I have a mechanical table (rohacell 51R foam wrapped in fiberglass, painted plus sides acetal plastic ) to be used in hospital environment so there are medical regulation to consider but would any specific IEC standard apply (60601-1 3rd)

RE: IEC for mechanical devices/products

I cannot provide a general answer, but w/r/t IECEx the mechanical systems protection standards are not yet available as far as I know.

RE: IEC for mechanical devices/products

Closest thing I can find is maybe IEC 60601-2-46 which covers operating tables, with or without electical components.

Possibly IEC 62366 but that refers mostly to usability.

All my projects have been medical electronics so I have no direct experience to share but thess may get the thought process rolling.

Doug
