Basic Curves and Associative curves in Drafting
Basic Curves and Associative curves in Drafting
(OP)
Hello,
Using NX6 here, soon to upgrade. My co-worker and I encountered a problem in drafting because of the diffirent methods we use to create manufacturing sheets. I came over from Auto Cadd and Pro/E and I exclusively use associative curves. While on the other hand, said co-worker uses basic curves. The problem was when he would go to edit a sheet I created in drafting and create a basic curve, he could not edit the basic curves that he had created.
We tested this by making a new sheet and first making an associative curve and then creating basic curves and trying to trim both. The associave worked without a problem. The basic curves would not trim though. We also tested drawing basic curves first and the associative and the results came out the same. Associave curves would trim, basic would not.
Ant solutions or information on this would greatly be appreciated
Thank you,
Sam

Thank you for the response! I am sure as we move to 8.5 we will be using exclusively sketching

There are times when I want to do something simple, like make a small portion of a cutting plane line invisible (because it is interferring with something) so I will lay down a couple lines to use as the bounding objects, then remove them when I am done.
To be frank I haven't gotten the whole jist of sketching in Drafting . . . I know I am missing something here, and I have tried it, but given up a few steps into it because of the time that I was wasting.

John, who decides to remove these things, is there any kind of survey or do the developers decide these things?

me as well as many others i am sure. A company i worked for for 15 years still does not even use sketcher, it was far simpler to
use basic curves to create the complext parts we manufactured, especially when the parts were new and many changes were made
early on. I know of 3 companys in my area probably 18-20 seats of ug who feel the same.

always keep basic curves as an option as well.

curious- what were you yousing basic curves for in drafting?

UG is hands down the best. There are times when I will have to right click on a view and "expand" the view and then insert a curve or line on the drawing
just to give me something to pick to for say defining an angle, or to dection a view too. But never to alter anything in any way.
That another reason I hope lines, curves, basic curves never go away.
Just my two cents worth.
