Adjustable Constraints i.e. door hinge in an assembly

Adjustable Constraints i.e. door hinge in an assembly

(OP)
Hello NX Community,

I could use some help figuring out how to set up constraints in a lower level .prt file so that I can adjust the part once it's placed into an assembly. I'm familiar with "Assembly Arrangements" but those only allow for a predetermined value. I'd like to have a fully range of motion or mounting options for a part. In particular I'm talking about library parts we model and vault. Some of these library parts such as hinges and slides have motion that I'd like to have access to in the assembly.

thanks,
Brad

You can create Assembly Constraints which are expression driven, such as Distance and Angle, and then drive them with Expressions from a higher level assembly via Interpart Expressions.

Have a look at the hinge I have modelled here. It is made as one single model and not an assembly. Try adding it to an assembly, and you will see that when you add it, it gives you the option to use a slider to define the hing angle. this creates a feature at the assembly level (deformable feature) this can be double clicked on and edited. Because the deformable feature is created at assembly level it means that the same hinge can be used over and over with lots of differnt angles.

Hope this helps

How did you get the slider box?

RE: Adjustable Constraints i.e. door hinge in an assembly

When defining your 'Deformable Component', you set an upper and lower limit using either the Expression Rule of 'By Whole Number Range' or 'By Number Range'.
