Wire wrap on a cylindrical rod

Wire wrap on a cylindrical rod

(OP)
Hi,

I am trying to create the geometry of a wire wrapped around a heated rod. Figure 1 in the attachment shows the original geometry. Notice the wire is round all the way and its face is directed outwards.
Figure 2 is what I am trying to do in Pro-e using the Helical sweep option. I intend to create a wire first and then I will simply put a cylinder in between. But the problem is that the wire face is directing inwards. Another issue is that when I try to increase the pitch of the wire, it starts to deform its shape and the wire does not remain completely round over its helical path.

My question is that is this the approach? If yes, then how can I solve the problems mentioned in the previous paragraph?

Thanks

RE: Wire wrap on a cylindrical rod

Note there are two options for the cross section of a helical sweep: thru axis and normal to trajectory. For a high pitch you probably want the normal to trajectory.

In any case it will never be a true circle when looking down the axis like your view B.
