Let a rigid body expand and shrink back

Let a rigid body expand and shrink back

(OP)
Hello community,

i'm trying to create a model, that extends a pipe and shrinks back to original size. ( like it is here http://www.simulia.com/all_images/support_images/s... ). I have relatively little experience with Abaqus.
I proceeded to the following:
1.Part->Discrete rigid->Shell->Extrusion
2.Property->steel
3.Step-> Static,General
4.Assembly-> Instance Part
5.Load-> BC-> Velocity
In step 5, I have the problem that all arrows( velocity) show in one direction.

What i'm doing wrong ?

RE: Let a rigid body expand and shrink back

If you want to avoid subroutines the pipe should not be rigid.

Define a cylindrical coordinate system with 'z' axis along the pipe's longitudinal axis. Constrain all nodes on the pipe to be fixed in the longitudinal and circumferential directions and apply your velocity/displacement in the radial direction.
