When you say self-studying, are you studying all the prep course materials you can purchase from AWS?

If so then memorize and understand the entire Fundamentals Book and be sure to "tab" all relevant pages of the Code book you plan to use during the open book segment of the 3-part exam.

I strongly recommend you the take the one week prep course.

Im taking the 7 day with real educational services. But i am studing before i even take the prep course. I am a welder/pipefitter by trade and have a A.A.S in piping design. I have 2 years experience in QA/QC inspection. I looking to be prepaired for the prep course so i can reap the full benifits of just that one week. My job here depends on passing my CWI. Thank you for your advice.Any other tips from anyone will help.
p.s. i studing the Certification Manual for Welding inspectors, AWS welding inspection handbook, the Aws visual workshop manual, and taking the test and API 1104.
thanks again Robert

R.E.A.L is a great prep course. I took it 3 years ago in Houston and passed. I had been a pipe fitter/welder for 10+ years before getting a QA/QC position and needed the CWI for the job also. The one thing that I didn't have alot of knowledge about was NDT although they covered it in the class. My advice would be study the material they send you before the class and do the homework they give you each night and you sould do just fine. Good luck.
