Distance protection relays with built-in teleprotection module

(OP)
The present day numerical distance protection relays come with built-in teleprotection modules and allow direct communication with the remote end relay through FO channel.
When the teleprotection panels were separate, these panels were being tested for performance in accordance with IEC 60834.
With the built-in teleprotection modules, should the same IEC code not be applied for performance testing so that the trip commands being transmitted are secured!
I would like to knwo the practice being followed / specified in other utilities!
Appreciate your views.
