Bonding Nylon 6-6 to PBT+PC
Bonding Nylon 6-6 to PBT+PC
(OP)
I need to bond Nylon 6-6 suture to a molded part made from Xenoy resin (polyester and polycarbonate blend (PBT+PC)). Will Locktite 4011 (Ethyl cyanoacrylate) provide an acceptable bond (tensile strength of at least 5 psi)?

RE: Bonding Nylon 6-6 to PBT+PC
For instance, if you can incorporate mechanical assistance like dowel pegs or increased surface area it might work.
Generally nylon does not glue very well at all with adhesives, but can be sometimes glued with solvents like formic acid.
Generally PBT does not glue well at all and certainly does NOT glue with the same solvents as might be used for nylons.
PC does glue well with solvents like chlorinated hydrocarbons, but these don't glue nylons or PBT.
As far as non solvent bonding adhesives go for nylon, cyanoacrylates work best, but still not well. Results vary a lot by individual grade and surface preparation.
