WPS and weld details

WPS and weld details

(OP)
Hi again,

regarding a WPS document:

i'm a correct that a WPS describes the welding parameters/setup in detail, but not the weld itself?

Like fillet weld height "a" or weld length for instance is not noted on a WPS? Why not, it seems quite obvious to do so?

RE: WPS and weld details

The purpose of a weld procedure specification (WPS) is to provide the minimum parameters that must be controlled to produce a sound weld. Certain parameters or variables are deemed essential which, if changed, would alter the properties of the weld itself or harm the base material surrounding the weld.

Weld joint details are listed as information purposes and are not considered essential to control. During production welding, the welder must be allowed the flexibility to make sound welds based on expierence. The weld length is not important, it is how the weld is deposited with essential parameters is what matters.
