pump suction line size??

pump suction line size??

pump suction line size??

(OP)
basically I'm a piping engineer..but I just wanted know something about the pipe size of the pump suction line..I have few parameters like diameter, flow rate, time , pressure head and velocity. I have to comment whether the given pipe size of the suction line is sufficient enough or not..Can anyone tell me what formulas that I have to use to solve this..
Thanks in advance

RE: pump suction line size??

You need the NPSHR curve for the pipe. Then you need to figure out how to check NPSH.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. If it's not safe ... make it that way.

RE: pump suction line size??

there is a lot to learn in dsigning pump suction pipework. Suggest you get hold of ANSI/HI 9.8 for the design of pump suction piping. Also the US Army website has details of pump suction design. you may need to physically model the suction to avoid swirling and cavitation. Even if you resort to FEA analysis there will be a caveat in the report which says it should be physically modelled.

Also these will be useful.
