Welding - material classes ISO 15608

Hi dear all!

I'm currently working on WPS forms which are new to me.

On the WPS one should note the material group of the base material according ISO 15608 guidliness, see link below

http://www.iiwindia.com/pdf/Summary%20ISO%20TR%201...

1st question: what exactly is the difference between group 2 and 3? Both are heat treatmented correct? I'm not sure what the difference between these two groups is supposed to be

2nd question: how to group WELDOX E material, see link
http://www.ssab.com/Global/Weldox/Datasheets/en/10...

Is this a group 2 or 3 material? How can this be established on the basis of a material data sheet which does not go in detail regarding the production proces? Even if i had extensive info over this material, what to look for?

Thank you all

RE: Welding - material classes ISO 15608

Group 2 is not heat treated, it is thermomechanically treated during shape production (for example, hot rolling of sheet). Weldox 700 is quenched and tempered (see Delivery Condition on page 2 of the data sheet), which makes is a Group 3 steel.

Thanks Cory for the informative reply.

But aren't almost all steels thermomechanically produced (at some point in the process)?

For insatance the steels of group one?

No. Material specifications that specifically call out a thermomechanical treatment specify temperature ranges either before, during and/or after rolling.

Heat treatment is a specific process step separate from forming to achieve the required proerties.
