Bolting components of nozzles - pr vessel or Piping code? any code case?

Bolting components of nozzles - pr vessel or Piping code? any code case?

(OP)
Refer Section VIII Div 1 U-1(e)(1)(c). Are there any interpretations or code cases clarifying whether the bolts on the first flanged piping nozzles on a pressure vessel belong to piping code or pressure vessel code? The issue is for service and temperature specifications as the connected piping and vessel can be designed to different type of service (say sour or hydrogen) or design temperatures.

RE: Bolting components of nozzles - pr vessel or Piping code? any code case?

(OP)
This issue is also similar to the butt welded pipe nozzles on pressure vessels. When we weld a flange, that weld falls under vessel fab code and if we weld a butt welded valve, it falls under piping code. I guess owner has to prescribe the responsibility here. Easy 'notwithstanding' clause is - Code cannot spell out all details - use engineering intelligence or subjective due diligence!

srijey,
The ASME VIII PV calculations do not include the bolting of the flanged connection (pipe, exchanger, etc) to the vessel nozzle. Accordingly, the joint design is not coming under the ASME VIII jurisdiction.
