Hole layout table in model

Hole layout table in model

Hole layout table in model

(OP)
I have another coming from Pro-E to NX6 question.

In Pro, if I had several holes in some random pattern, you could import a spreadsheet with the coordinates. Is there an equivalent?

Also, in this case I happen to be doing this at the assembly level and looks like I have to use the Assembly Cut feature. So I have a 50ft beam with tons of hole patterns and I have to create an extrude with all the hole locations. Seems cumbersome to have to place and constrain over a hundred holes. Please help if I'm going in the wrong direction.

Thanks in advance.

RE: Hole layout table in model

OK, there is a 'Hole Table' function in NX. However, in NX 6.0 this was not yet officially supported, but it was available if NX is set-up properly. To do this set the folowing Environment Variable:

UGII_DRAFTING_HOLE_TABLE=1

Now restert NX and with you drawing open and part displayed in a view you can see the holes, you go to...

Insert -> Table -> Hole Table...

...follow the dialog steps and the status line prompts.

RE: Hole layout table in model

AFA creation in a method you desire by spreadsheet, you need NX8's new patterning command which includes a method to edit hole locations by spreadsheet. However, you have to place them first and then edit. And unfortunately they aren't "tagged" in a method that leads to easy editing. If the holes are all the same size in one feature, I guess it doesn't matter if you have the coordinates needed to input.

Hopefully future enhancements will tag the holes with a number on the screen, so you know exactly which hole you are editing in the spreadsheet.

Hopefully you can upgrade soon enough to help you out.
