Area fill in contiguous areas erases contour

Area fill in contiguous areas erases contour

Area fill in contiguous areas erases contour

(OP)
Hi everybody,

I have this drawing where i need to fill multiple area of a part with a grey shade to demonstrate which areas will be covered with thermal paint.

However, when i fill these areas with the "Area Fill" command and then export the drawing to a PDF, all the contours inside the parts are erased.

Is there a solution to make the area fill some kinf of translucent to still be able to see the details of the part?

any help would be greatly appreciated,

What version of NX are you on?

oops, i forgot to mention, i'm on NX 7.5.4.4

Could you provide a picture of what you're attempting? Not the PDF but a screen shot of your drawing view where you expected to see what you wanted.

Hi John,
here is a print screen of one of my parts. I could use Crosshatch instead, but a lot of different and contiguous surface finishes are needed and many different type of crosshatch makes the drawing almost unreadable.

In all honesty, your picture doesn't help much. You say "...all the contours inside the parts are erased." What exactly are you calling "contours" and on you picture where are these "contours" which are getting erased when you create your PDF? Also perhaps we will need to see BOTH the before (screen capture) and after (PDF file) before we can better understand what is being "erased".

Hi John,
by contours, i mean the associative lines created from the geometry. I included in this zip folder a capture before and after the PDF export from NX. I also included the 3d part as well. Thank you for looking into this, i really don't know what setting to tinker with.

I think that you're just going to have to use a crosshatch pattern instead. It appears that the PDF code is taking the idea of an 'Area Fill' a bit too literally.

You can edit the crosshatch pattern to be the same in each area if you wish. Also, if you edit the crosshatch distance to a small value, it will be virtually the same as an area fill.

thanks for the tip i will try that.

That won't help the PDF issue since what he's looking for is really something which has a 'translucent' quality to it, something which I suspect is not readily supported by the PDF code.
