Cycle Testing an Aluminum Pressure Vessel

Cycle Testing an Aluminum Pressure Vessel

Cycle Testing an Aluminum Pressure Vessel

(OP)
Hello,

We’re performing pressure testing on an aluminum pressure vessel. What you’ll see in the attached image is that we have four samples that are tested as follows:

1) Burst test – Pressure increased until unit bursts
2) High pressure / low cycle
3) Low pressure / high cycle
4) Lowest pressure / highest cycles

From busting the first unit, we recorded a pressure of 245 psi. We estimate that units 3 & 4 will be tested below 50 psi (due to facility limitations). We would like to select a pressure for unit #2 such that it will result in a clearly defined, signature plot for the pressure to number of cycles relationship. However, we’re not certain what pressure to designate for point #2, how should we go about determining this?

Thank you in advance!

RE: Cycle Testing an Aluminum Pressure Vessel

Standard hydro test: 1.5 x max allowed operating pressure.

No need to go higher in pressure than that - UNLESS you want to "advertise" the #2 test pressure as "2x MAWP for nn cycles", "3x MAWP for nn cycles" , etc.
