Hazardous Location (Specifically ATEX) Mechanical assessments for Check/relief valve

Hazardous Location (Specifically ATEX) Mechanical assessments for Check/relief valve

(OP)
Hello,

This is my first post here. I will attempt to be clear and descriptive.

Our systems use either an adjustable check valve (for low pressure) or rupture disc (for high pressure) as safety relieving devices. We are debating if these devices pose an ignition risk when properly installed, in which I mean vented to a safe area or fixed container. Please keep in mind are largest vessel has a volume of 5 gallons.

Our relief valves are typically 1/4" NPT process connections and our rupture discs are typically 1/4 or 1/2", which should give an indication that these are small in physical size.

Has anyone done a risk assessment on such devices?

Does anyone know if a supplier that sells atex rated versions.

Thank you,

Ty

RE: Hazardous Location (Specifically ATEX) Mechanical assessments for Check/relief valve

Hi Ty,

If this is a equipment intended for the EU market, to do a risk assessment on an ATEX equipment, you should use a standard such as EN 1127-1:2011.

Also, you may have to consider:
EN 15198:2007 Methodology for the risk assessment of non-electrical equipment and components for intended use in potentially explosive atmospheres

I hope this helps

Vincent P.
