Hi all,
I would like to ask for the issue of welding a channel by the two sides.
I have seen how to do this but only by one side, with only one line of welding in W. Blodget
and websites. But I need to weld by the two sides. So I need to know first how is computed the Inertia by the vertical axis (the complicated one). Because I have tried this but I could not manage to do that.

Draw your problem, and what your assumed weld geometry and sizes are.

If you want to use Blodgett's method, the easy way to do it is just take the moment of inertia of the single weld around a channel, double it and calculate the d and b values by measuring to the centre of the pairs of welds rather than the the single weld location. This is reasonably accurate, and it's what he did for welding on both sides of a wide flange. Alternatively, you could build your own calc if you want, from either first principles or by adding them together from the different line welds Blogett provides.

Well looking at your PNG file, I do not see where the welding is to take place. Also, you should show the external forces acting on the whole channel assembly in a manner with good engineering practices in order to determine the types of calculation needed.
