i have a metalic parts that i need to know whether it has ceramic coating like WC or SiC or not? please let me have your advise.

RE: i have a metalic parts that i need

Can you perform Vickers hardness test? X-Ray fluorescence is a nondestructive qualitative test that can detect W. Can you perform metallographic examination of a section?

Just ceramic coating or not? Look at the color. Blank metal = no coating. Ceramic usually has a color. Very often it is black or dark grey.

thanks for your suggestion, actually its not possible to perform metallographic examination, but i think color is very usefull. could you please let me know more about X-Ray fluorescence for detecting W?

Would you be able to check electrical properties? Do not know if electrical properties of the coatings vary greatly from the base metal, but assume there would be enough of a difference to figure it out.
