CMU or Concrete Stem RW Design

CMU or Concrete Stem RW Design

(OP)
I have a spreadsheet that can now only do cantilever retaining wall. I would like to add option for CMU stem or combination of concrete and cmu stems (up to 3 sections). I also want to add an option for top restraint. What references would give the equations and theory I need? Thank you.

RE: CMU or Concrete Stem RW Design

As for different sections I would find moment and shear at each step to design the reinforcement at these locations. For Masonry you can now use strength design. A good reference for masonry would be Reinforced Mawonry Engineering Handbook 6th Edition (although it may be more than you need). Also make sure development lengths are met. I'm not exactly sure what you are looking for here.

For a top restraint - I'm currently looking for a good reference as well however I know that the "Basics of retaining walls" by Hugh Brooks discuses this some. Usually an assumption is made that the top and bottom are pin-pin or pin-fix. If the bottom is fixed than the footing would need to be designed for the moment (bearing pressure check as well). Usually I check to see if passive pressure or a concrete slab will act as a 'pin' condition at the bottom of the stem.
