Associatively scale curves

Associatively scale curves

Does anybody know how to associatively scale curves. Thanks!!!

RE: Associatively scale curves

offset curve?

RE: Associatively scale curves

As far as we have found there is no way to associatively scale curves.

You must also be very careful not to scale twice as the transformations dialog makes it very easy to do this. If you select the Move button the curve will scale if you then select the OK button the curve will scale again.

RE: Associatively scale curves

How many curves are you working with? If it is a small number, you might use a workaround such as:
  1. extrude a sheet body with your curve
  2. associatively scale the sheet body
  3. associatively extract/intersect with the sheet body to get a new curve
This becomes impractical as the number of curves increases. What is your end goal? Why do you need to scale the curves? perhaps there is another way to get what you want.

Thanks for the ideas.

Actually, they were composite curves (about 30 connected curves) wave linked from another file. I have to scale the closed set of curves to compensate for shrink. Without being too specific, I extrude offsets of the curves for Boolean operations (does anybody still use the term Boolean).

I went ahead and created new scaled copies of the curves, but in hindsight, I could have just scaled the extrusions. (Duh!!!)

RE: Associatively scale curves

And if the curves form a closed 2D planar profile, you can extrude you model using zero thickness (the result will be a sheet body) which once you add the scale feature, extract the edge curves and hide the sheet body, it's as if you had parametrically scalable curves.

RE: Associatively scale curves

Morgan, you need to be careful about scaling linked curves, even if you break the link they will not scale. You have to either copy the curves or do an "edit-feature-remove parameters" so that they will scale.

Thanks Jurgen. You were right about transform dialog. I was in transform today, and I accidently scaled a set of curves twice..LOL.
