Compressible Fluid Maximum Velocity

Hi Everybody,

What is the maximum permissible(allowable) velocity of compressible fluids for peroidic services such as relief valves vent stacks?

RE: Compressible Fluid Maximum Velocity

From a physical standpoint, it's sonic velocity. From a practical standpoint, each company is different and may have their own guidelines.

Good luck,
Latexman

RE: Compressible Fluid Maximum Velocity

kinda depends on the specifics of your installation.

inside the relief valve it is often sonic, while you want to avoid sonic conditions in the discharge piping

Thanks Latexman,
Would you please inform me from some practical range?

RE: Compressible Fluid Maximum Velocity

There's been lots of threads on this question, have you searched the site?

RE: Compressible Fluid Maximum Velocity

Of the three companies that have owned the business I work for (rumors of a fourth surfaced in the business news last week!), two allowed sonic velocity at the end of the tailpipe, and one has no policy on it (at least I haven't found it yet).

Others have stated their company policies here. As TD2K suggested, use Search (between Forum and FAQs). It's pretty slick.

Good luck,
Latexman
