X-FEM crack propagation

X-FEM crack propagation

X-FEM crack propagation

(OP)
Good afternoon to everyone

I am trying to reproduce numerically with ABAQUS 6.9 an experiment of quasi-static crack initiation and propagation under mixed mode loading in planar (two dimensional plane stress) of single edge notched tension specimens. The geometry is very simple but it's the first time that I use X-FEM and I have some doubts.

I need to select a damage criterion and I selected the the maximum principal stress failure criterion for damage initiation. But I have no idea about the value of the Max Principal Stress, can I evaluate crack propagation without it? I just need to know the crack path.

Thanks a lot for your help
