Odd Wood Joist size

Other than being milled on site in the early part of the 20th century, circa 1910 to 1920 I figure, is there any known supplier of dimension lumber that anyone has run into that mass produced 2.375 X 17" deep wood joists - most likely DF?

I am heavily leaning that there is not - just checking though.

RE: Odd Wood Joist size

Sounds like a standard size 3x18 dressed very green. I wonder when they started dressing green lumber larger to account for the shrinkage to dry lumber in use.

As EOR's we should take the responsibility to design our structures to support the components we allow in our design per that industry standards.

RE: Odd Wood Joist size

Nothing mass produced that I know of that's not engineered lumber. You sure it wasn't custom made? I've seen 1940s rough-sawn beams in all sorts of sizes in industrial settings.

Maine EIT, Civil/Structural. Going to take the 1st part of the 16-hour SE test in April, wish me luck!
