(OP)
I am modeling a simple spring element in Abaqus where I fix one end of it and then assign it a stiffness and apply a load to it. In theory this will allow me to accurately predict the displacement I anticipate to occur. For example if I give the spring a stiffness of 10N/mm and apply a load in one direction of 50N the non-fixed end of my spring will displace 5mm. I successfully got this to work when I applied a load only in one direction however if I try to apply a load in more than one direction (50N in both the X and Y or X, Y and Z directions at once) I do not get the displacement I calculated (around 7mm if the load were applied in only 2 directions) before running the model. I have already tried looking in User Manual however I could not find any helpful information on this problem. Any suggestions on what I am doing wrong or how I can fix this problem are greatly appreciated.
