gradual thickness redcution in 2D model ?

gradual thickness redcution in 2D model ?

(OP)
Dear engineers,

I want to model a cruciform specimen which has a reduced thickness in the centre. This thickness reduction is tapered and not abrupt. Is it possible to model this gradual thickness transition in 2D with S4R elements ? At the moment I am aproximating it with an abrupt transition (2 sections with a different thickness), but of course it is not a correct representation of the reallity... I already have a correct 3D model, but I want to reduce the calculation time by working in 2D.

Thanks !
