Contact pressure surface plots

Contact pressure surface plots

(OP)
Hi, I would really appreciate some help.

I have been using excel for many years, however it seems that the 3d surface plots produced are not as smooth as I would like. Does anyone know of any simple to use software that can help with producing a more presentable 3d surface plots for presentation purposes. I have attached the data and the surface plot in excel.

Many Thanks

RE: Contact pressure surface plots

ImageJ has 3-D plotting capabilities, while are adjustable, but it has less capability relative to axes scaling, etc. Nonetheless, it has the ability to move the 3-D image viewpoint in real time, which Excel cannot do. It also has the capability to smooth the surface in real time.

RE: Contact pressure surface plots

If you want to do presentation quality graphs, then you need to be looking at a graphing package, such as http://www.math.wpi.edu/saspdf/gref/c01.pdf. But, obviously, SAS is a bit pricey. In any case, you could look and see if there is a less expensive, or even open-source, program that suits your needs.

In your other posting, you stated that your data comes from MATLAB, and MATLAB generally has better graphics capabilities than Excel, for things like this. Maybe:http://gephi.org/
