Equivalent CSA standard for ASTM A449

Equivalent CSA standard for ASTM A449

Equivalent CSA standard for ASTM A449

(OP)
Engineer specified ASTM A449 anchor rods for a project. Contractor is asking if there is an equivalent CSA standard. Anyone run into this question before?

Can any of our north-of-the-border members help? BAretired? dik?

RE: Equivalent CSA standard for ASTM A449

I'll check... usually spec ASTM A449 and no problem... but will check.

RE: Equivalent CSA standard for ASTM A449

I cannot find an equivalent, and will check with a couple of suppliers on Tuesday. We almost always use ASTM specs for fasteners (A325, A449, or A490 with A449 being almost identical to A325 except for the available bolt diametres and lengths). A449 (I think) is a more general spec for sizes but the materials are almost identical to A325, except available in longer and larger sizes.

And for more recent projects I've specd ASTM A1554 grade 50 for anchor rods. A325, A1554 and A490's are common in most of Canada, with the equivalent Nuts and Washers to match.

I can't add anything useful to what dik has written. I have never specified ASTM A449 rods. Bolts are normally specified by the ASTM specification which is considered an international standard and I am not aware of a CSA standard for such commonly used high strength bolts as A325 or A490.

RE: Equivalent CSA standard for ASTM A449

I won't claim that this is right or not, but this was the 3rd item on a google search:

ASTM F1554 | Atlantic Bolt Inc
www.atlanticboltinc.com/F1554.htm

ASTM A449 is the strength level equivalent of A325, and ASTM A354 or ETD 150 is the strength level equivalent of ASTM A490 in a rod specification with more ...

RE: Equivalent CSA standard for ASTM A449

I checked with a couple of fastener suppliers and they haven't encountered spec'd sizes greater than can be provided in A325 and this has been accepted as a substitute by the EOR's.

Unless you need really big bolts, I'd stick with ASTM A325...
