Epoxy Repair of Pitting

Epoxy Repair of Pitting

Epoxy Repair of Pitting

(OP)
Good morning everyone! I was wondering if there are any provisions in the AWWA or API codes that allow for the repair of pitting conditions by the application of an epoxy-type material, particularly on floor plates? I have reviewed my copy of API-653 and any reference to repairs involve welding (plate replacement, lap patches, overlay, etc.). Just wondering if there are any quicker, just as reliable options out there. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Thank you in advance for any help/advice!

RE: Epoxy Repair of Pitting

"Yes, but not really"

Epoxy is a 'coating' and can be used, like paint, to protect metal from [further] corrosion. You cannot use it in the structural calc's that need to be run to see if the floor/shell is sound enough to allow continued service.
