KeyShot with NX??

KeyShot with NX??

KeyShot with NX??

(OP)
Hello

Do you know how to use the Keyshot renderer from within NX?

At Keyshot website you can find plugins to integrate it to Solidworks and other CAD but it says that you don't need any plugin for NX.
I've installed it but I cannot see any new menu nor option in NX 8.

RE: KeyShot with NX??

NX comes with it's own built-in fully integrated Rendering Tools. From what I can see looking at the KeyShot examples that I've seen, I'm not sure that it would provide any more capabilities than what has been available in NX since 1994 when Photo Realistic rendering was first integrated into Unigraphics V10 (I was the Product Manager for the 'UG Photo' product).

To see some of the early examples of what UG Photo was capable of producing check out the following webpage:

For some more images, go to (they start about 2/3 of the way down the page):

In my opinion, NX library has few materials

RE: KeyShot with NX??

The NX Rendering tool comes with 38 different material 'rendering' engines, which can be customized so as to provide a very large range of material effects. Then there this the extensivce library of texture map samples (475 images provided out-of-the-box) which again can be supplemented with any user-provided image files in .tiff format. And on top of that are additional software rendering based textures and finishes which can be applied on top of any assigned material.

And of course, you can also acquire additional material rendering libraries directly from the organization which developed the toolkits which we've used to create the NX Rendering package.

Without knowing, don't you simply open the NX parts in KeyShot ?
A plugin , is to me, a piece of code that runs inside another program, which Keyshot doesn't do with NX but a few others.

Tomas

I was just wondering if there is a way to use keyshot integrated in NX.
My company has a few seats with NX and others..., this week I'm with NX.

Hi guys,

Toost is correct. You simply open the native NX files inside KeyShot. We support also other formats natively - see the full list here: http://keyshot.com/tech-specs/

We haven't developed a plugin for NX yet due to Siemens bureaucracy which makes it extremely difficult for us to become a partner. But we are getting there.

The idea of the plugin is that you put a button inside of NX (we have done so with Pro/E, CREO, SolidWorks and others). Upon the push of the button the plugin will take the currently displayed part(s) and assembly, open KeyShot, and import the data.

Comparing KeyShot to rendering inside NX - well, you really can't. NX's rendering tools don't have the speed, ease of use, and quality that KeyShot offers. I am speaking from experience, having managed the product in 2003/04 while working at UGS.

KeyShot is becoming the rendering tool of choice for many NX users. Our customer of the month is Formation Design (a flagship company that Siemens likes to use for ID) who has been using NX and KeyShot for several years, and are extremely happy with it.

I hope this helps.

NX renderer also has many options but it's slower than keyshot
