Design Wind Speed

Design Wind Speed

Design Wind Speed

(OP)
Vessel designers and specifiers should be aware that the design wind speed basis has been altered in ASCE 7-10 versus earlier Editions. In other words, a "100 mph" wind from ASCE 7-10 cannot be compared with a "100 mph" wind from ASCE 7-05 and earlier. See the design standards themselves and as well the Commentary to ASCE 7-10.

A good overview is given in this magazine article from ASCE http://www.structuremag.org/article.aspx?articleID...

EDIT March 6, 2018: The link above is dead. I don't recall exactly what the article was but this link to the Editorial in the June, 2012 issue of Structure magazine (published by ASCE) should be suitable. The Editorial is "Highlighting Significant Changes in ASCE 7-10"
